Euroopan julkisen sanan neuvostojen yhteistyöjärjestön AIPCE:n kaksipäiväinen konferenssi alkaa Wienissä ensi torstaina 8.10.2015. AIPCE:n jäsenmaiden edustajille tarkoitettuun kokoukseen on ilmoittautunut noin 80 henkilöä.
Kokouksen yhteydessä järjestetään myös Itävallan julkisen sanan neuvoston viisivuotisjuhlaseminaari. Se nostaa osallistujien yhteismäärän noin 140:een.
Wienin kokouksen on määrä hyväksyä AIPCE:lle uudet jäsenkriteerit. Niiden valmistelu annettiin tämän vuoden isäntämaan tehtäväksi vuosi sitten Brysselissä. Uudet kriteerit on todettu tarpeelliseksi, jotta AIPCE voisi keskittyä vuosikokouksissaan Euroopan julkisen sanan neuvostojen ajankohtaisiin asioihin ja itsesääntelyn ongelmiin.
Osanottajamäärä on paisunut viime vuosina, kun monet Euroopan ulkopuoliset maat ovat lähettäneet AIPCE:n kokouksiin tarkkailijoita. Unesco, jonka edustajat osallistuvat myös vuosittain kokoukseen, on rahoittanut tällaista toimintaa. Se haluaa levittää Euroopan ulkopuolelle sanomaa median itsesääntelyn tärkeydestä.
Kokous jakautuu kolmeen työryhmään, joista yhtä, natiivimainontaa käsittelevää ryhmää, vetää JSN:n puheenjohtaja Risto Uimonen. JSN:stä kokoukseen osallistuu myös valmisteleva sihteeri Nenne Hallman.
Kokouksen muita aiheuta ovat muun maussa Charlie Hebdon toimitukseen kohdistunut iskua ja satiirin merkitystä journalismissa, median keskittyminen sekä tutkiva journalismi, josta puhuu kolminkertainen Pulitzer-palkinnon voittanut toimittaja David Bastaw The New York Times -lehdestä.
